SINGAPORE: Some food centres are already reporting success in their own tray return programmes, even as the National Environment Agency said the national tray return programme will be rolled out at nine hawker centres by year’s end.
Most diners in the NTUC Foodfare cafeteria at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital returned their trays after they have eaten.
This shows the success of its tray return programme, which was started two years ago.
The cafeteria incorporates design elements that encourage visitors to return their trays.
For example, the tray return station is located centrally and is just steps away from the diners no matter whey they sit.
Above them, the message is reinforced with electronic messages and video reminders.
The food court even leaves a box of tissue on every table to make it easier for diners to clean up when returning their trays.
Hospital staff also chips in by gently reminding diners to return their trays as part of efforts to create a more gracious and eco-friendly environment.
