Acrylic cast plastic for a DIY-project: brightly coloured bowls.
Simple, quick and doable by everyone.
For this DIY-project you need to pick one or more of our fanzy discs that are made of acrylic cast plastic. Acrylic cast plastic is the superior acrylic product in our plastics range as the material is very versatile and therefore easy to handle. We show you in this article how to make bright bowls out of our fanzy discs that you can fill up afterwards with any kind of stuff. You can do this project with a bigger group or at home with your family. All you need is an oven, a heatproof item like a beaker or a small pot, gloves or a thick cloth and a hairdryer that you can set to cool.
The diameter (330 mm) and the thickness (3 mm) of your acrylic discs are always the same, but you have the choice between six different colours:
- red fluorescent
- blue fluorescent
- blue transparent
In the following we will explain to you, how to make your own bowl with our acrylic disc.
Instructions for your DIY handmade bowl.
Before you start:
Please be careful – hot acrylic can burn, please take care.
#1 Preheat oven to 180°C and place the acrylic disc on a tray covered with parchment paper.
#2 Place the disc in the oven and set the timer for three minutes.
#3 Take the acrylic disc out of the oven. The acrylic is now pretty soft and flexible. As it’s hot, make sure you use gloves or a cloth.
#4 You can place the acrylic disc on an upturned beaker or another heatproof item. Put some weight on top so that you get a flat bottom surface in the end.
#5 After a little while, take the disc off the beaker and use the hairdryer to shape the bowl and also to cool the acrylic down.
#6 After the acrylic has cooled down, you are done.
You can now use your bowl to fill it up with sweets or also as a business card holder on a desk or a little table.
Here you can buy acrylic discs in our shop.
