This video is to bring you a closer look at the Pemko 153AT. This is a mill finish aluminum outswing fixed bump up type threshold. This is a residential threshold really most commonly but not necessarily. Although it is appropriate because you have typically a sill condition when you are building a pre hung unit and be a little bit lower then the structure underneath the threshold when using it as an integrated part of a wood frame for a door. The 153 is representative of the profile of this. It is what is called a high dam style threshold meaning that you’ve got a higher face then the bottom over here as it relates to keeping a nice seal on the threshold itself. The A in the part number stands for the fact that this threshold is in a milled aluminum finish. This threshold is also available in the mill aluminum, bright dipped gold which would be a quite shiny metallic sort of gold finish, a D finish which is a dark bronze anodized, a G finish which is more of a matte sort of gold type finish. The G is certainly more common then the bright dipped gold because the bright dipped is quite bright. Maybe not conducive for all sorts of finish installation, the gold is a bit more common. Out swinging doors, that is what this is for. This is going to be for a door that will swing out and one nice aspect of this threshold is not only that it will account for an unusual sill condition not unusual, but a sill condition where you have an uneven floor. Think of a residential application where you have exactly that. You have a garage door that is going to swing out into the garage and you’ve got a flooring condition on the inside, it is very likely that it looks like this because this leg is down further than here and be perfect for you. It gives you a nice bump up seal. The fact that it is fire rated is appropriate for that application because it is a fire rated installation typically, air infiltration tested which is very appropriate for that as well. Now dimensionally lets go over the important dimensional properties. If you’ve got an exterior type frame, 5-5/8″ deep which is what this is would certainly be very compatible. 5-5/8″. You have basically a 1/2″ offset between this inside portion. This is 5/8″ and then when you get down here what I’m trying to say is you’ve got a total of 5/8″ offset difference between the height of this leg and the height of this leg, which is really the height of here. So it is a 1/2″ difference between here and here, so keep that in mind as you are considering whether or not this is a good seal. The fact that it is outswing is good. You might want to add some sort of a door sweep out here. If I was using it as an outswing and that door swung out, I would probably want my point of first initial point of barrier to the weather to go out on the exterior of the door rather then the interior of the face but none the less. This is available not only in those different finishes that I mentioned earlier but all of the common lengths as well. If you have need for a custom length, by all means let us know by ordering the next longest piece or pieces and simply indicate in the comment field what length you would like for us to cut the material back to. Now the reasoning is this. If you had to take this 3 foot piece and cut it down to say 32” which is very common, you are going to eliminate that countersink that is there. Speaking of that countersink, screws are included in a complementary finish about a #10 x 1-1/2″. If you have more then an occasional need for weatherstripping, familiarize yourself with their catalog.
